IPX5 AND IPX6 PROTECTION DEGREE TESTS

WHAT IS THE TEST OF THE PROTECTION DEGREE OF ENCLOSURES??

IP testing determine the level of protection provided by an enclosure against the intrusion of water, foreign bodies and solid particles, such as dust. The IP codes derived from the dust tightness tests are IP5X and IP6X. These tests are used to classify and evaluate the degree of protection provided by enclosures against the entry of dust inside a component.

Most products with automotive applications require IP Testing to be carried out as they are often exposed to dirt, sand, water and other fine particles, and must ensure that the component functions properly even under these conditions.

COMPONENT PROTECTED FROM DUST (IP5X)

A dust protected component has an enclosure in which the ingress of dust is not completely prevented. In order to be classifiable with the IP5X degree, a component must guarantee good functioning even in the event of minimal dust infiltration. In the case of the IP5X rating test, further checks are necessary to ensure that the product functions correctly despite the infiltration of dust.

DUST-TIGHT COMPONENT (IP6X)

A fully dust-tight enclosure ensures that there is no dust inside and in this case the components can be classified with IP6X degree of protection. Unlike the IP5X dust tightness test, the IP6X test does not require any additional assessment as the presence of dust in the enclosure is considered unacceptable.

CEVLAB LABORATORY AND IP TESTING

In our laboratories we are able to perform IP tests to verify the degree of protection on automotive and non-automotive components. The versatility of our instrumentation and the support of a team specialized in IP tests allow us to be able to respond to the needs of customers from different sectors, ensuring a complete and ad hoc service in any context.
