WHICH IS THE FUNCTION OF SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE LEAKAGE TESTS?

The ultraviolet leakage consists of the capability that some material posses to resist ultraviolet or sunlight. These two, in particular, may have a strong impact on the appearance and mechanical properties that materials possess. In fact, those materials which are employed in the exterior may be subject to weather conditions. Among them, there is sunlight exposure.

The accelerated ageing test reproduces the damages that are caused by sunlight exposure within a few months, years, days or weeks. The test is normally conducted by using ultraviolet lamps which are able to reproduce within a short time the colour spectrum wavelength.

An ultraviolet resistant material will not display any changes in appearance like:

  • Yellowing
  • Discoloration
  • Surface whitening with stress crack formation
  • Striping

As well as it will not display any variation in its mechanical properties like:

  • Embrittlement
  • Weakening
  • Deformation

CEVLAB REALIZES SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE LEAKAGE TEST

In our seat in Carpi (MO) we have at our disposal a test system which allows us to perform the sunlight exposure leakage test. This test respects the 7.N8033 FCA standard and is realized by using a Ultra-Vitalux lamps matrix which are set in order to obtain the required ultraviolet levels. These levels normally range between 900 W/mand 1250 W/m2.
